Where other sweet alyssum have faded out here in the heat of summer (Boston Z6a), this one has consistently kept going strong, blooming nonstop up till frost. It easily gets 2' wide, and plants should be spaced accordingly. Exceptional vigor and heat tolerance.
This is not a cultivar of sweet alyssum (Lobularia maritima)---which likes cool weather---but a hybrid with L. canariensis, which is much more heat tolerant.
It is sterile, and it is propagated vegetatively. Where L. maritima is potentially invasive, as in California, this cultivar would be a non-invasive alternative.

My plants have spread to about 24 inches in less than a month and they are gorgeous. So crisp and fresh looking. They are filling in where my Iberis (Candy Tuft) is fading out. I love this plant. They do need consistent watering. I missed one plant that was tucked under a shrub and it dried right up without daily watering. I plan on buying more and using them alone in baskets to hang from my porch.
August 9, 2015 Oh boy does this stuff take over the garden bed and then creeps out onto the lawn. It is gorgeous stuff, but pick your site well. I was just out for an hour cutting mine back, and I am sweating and huffing and puffing. I could have used electric hedge trimmers as it is so dense and a huge 10 inch deep mat that sprawls about 3-4 feet. I had placed many of mine at the front of the beds which was a mistake due to how rampant it grows. It will grow over other shrubs and annuals too. So placement is critical. I have one plant in a tub and it is a glorious trailing mass of white about 3 feet by 3 feet. So these would make inexpensive all white hanging baskets. Next year I will be careful where I put them. I love them and wouldn't want to be without them, but never again will I put them at the front of a bed next to annuals.

Seems to be about 15" wide as of July 12, and there's lots of summer to go. Its twin, bought at the same time and the same size, went into the ground maybe 6' away., It's maybe 6" wide, so it's not doing as amazingly well as the one in the pot. Our soil is heavy clay, but I'd have given the planting a hole with potting mix and other amendments. Problem is probably the soil outside the hole I dug for the plant.

This plant is ...Read Morea *beast*. It's been in the ground now for about 6 weeks and it's about 4 feet wide. No exaggeration! I dug up the label to make sure it actually said it gets 8" wide, I was starting to think it might have said 8'!
During the day, the plant has many small beneficial insects flying through it, which is what I wanted it for, so they can feed on the not so desirable insects we have.
I've had to move 2 smaller Alyssums out of it's way, and I'll be moving all but one of them under my pear tree where there's more room and the little insects can feed on the aphids.
So I'm neutral on this plant - it does what I wanted, just at a much larger scale than I was led to believe. I thought people should know before planting!

This spring, i container planted one of them and purchased another.The one i grew from cutting, grew faster and bigger. WHen it got hot, which, this year, it did rather early, i moved it to part shade and it stayed green. When the weather cooled down in September, it began growing again and blooming.
