However, of the many dahlias I grow, I seem to have the most problem with Hissy Fitz in the spring. Being in the Pacific Northwest and in the Puget Sound Convergence Zone, when our numerous spring rains can really soak the soil, Hissy Fitz shows heat shock when the sun comes out after 3 days of on and off rain with lots of cloud cover. I have grown this in various locations for 3 years and each year I get a heat exhaustion response when the sun finally comes out. In contrast, my other 30 or so dahlias are fine. I wonder if its roots react to very wet soil more than the other varieties. Or maybe just bad luck, a statistical blip.
