I have this beautiful and lovely, deciduous shrub/tree growing in one of my zone 5, micro-climate gardens here in Minnesota. I purchased ...Read Moremine from Quacking Grass Nursery in Connecticut a few years back and it is doing great where I planted it. It is in an area that gets some full sun and then filtered sun throughout the remainder of the day. So far, it is still a bit small, as it was only planted 3 years ago. However, what a beautiful shrub it is, with the leaves coming out in a bronzy pink in Spring and turning a glossy, deep green. Mine has not flowered yet, but I expect it will in a few more years when it has become more mature. Looking forward to the Hawthorne-like, white blooms, that later turn into corymbs of bright, fire engine red berries, which last throughout the Fall and into Winter. I imagine the berries would look spectacular dusted with a bit of snow. I am so happy to find a Photinia that actually grows here, and is hardy enough for our Winter season. Also, I do have this particular species variation of Photinia villosa var. maximowicziana and not the straight species. It is a bit more refined in my opinion, and has really gorgeous Fall colour of bronze, pink and red. I have it planted somewhat between two Prunus serotina trees and it is beautiful. Definitely a shrub/tree I would highly recommend for those who like exotic and uncommon plants.
