It does require acidifying which I implement with an acid-based fertilizer. It can become chlorotic but with Muracid or Ironite bounces back quickly. In acid soil it is blue lavender. I only moderately acidify so mine are pinky mauve.
I now come back to this several years later. I now have three, and have discovered that it is zone 5 hardy. It went out of commerce but then returned, so I was able to make my solo plant a trio. Highly recommended to those who have other types of hydrangeas.
