Flowers are brief and early in spring but fragrant and showy. Mine are in partial shade in a pine understory area that is exposed on one side. Lovely border addition that doesn't require any effort and provides nice screening. I don't prune mine, just remove dead wood and I don't know how it responds to pruning. Likely it could be trained into a tidier appearance but I think it makes a very good hedge or back border in a cottage garden if left to do its thing where tidiness isn't necessarily desired.
