'Merlot' redbud will be a more upright, heat tolerant, and dense alternative to the more common 'Forest Pansy'. The leaves are glossy and stay attractive well into late summer and fall. This tree flowers heavily, but the seed pods tend to drop early before ripening.
This looks to be a great tree for those gardeners in hotter zones that are looking for the darker foliaged small flowering tree.
