I spread cotton burr compost around the plants and epsoma slow release fertilizer. To give it a head start I used liquid all purpose Miracle grow. Our soil PH is in the 7 range. Still no stunning pink.

2021 Aug update - 2nd year in the ground. These nandina are very hardy in out 100+ degree heat. When all other color in the garden is wilting, the nandina draws your attention. After fertilizing with Miracle Grow every 6 weeks, one of the nandina in dappled shade is pink. The other 7 nandinas have mixed amounts of orangey pink growth with light green. Some are only green. Although not what I expected, it is pretty and reminiscent of fall colors. They are a beautiful red in the winter. Perhaps as they become more established, I will see more pink.
