Mine are placed in a full shade protected area under a cherry tree. They are in fairly dry soil and I do have to provide some supplemental watering in the summer. Also as a precaution in the winter I throw a loose but thick covering of leaves on the place where they grow to keep the wind from cooling the soil further.
