This cross is used particularly as E natalensis is one of the most closely related plants to E woodii, and it is common and fast growing for a cycad. The idea is to cross these with E woodii pollen, and take those females and cross them with E woodii pollen etc. until enough generations have been cultivated that the offspring will be at least 90% or more E woodii (this will take many many years of course). From the looks department it is a handsome plant and massive, but not nearly as impressive or ornamental as an Encephalartos woodii. The leaves are nearly always like the mother (E natalensis). It is one of the fastest growing hybrids of all the Encephalartos.
