It is a solitary, bifid-leaved plant from Guatemala and Mexico where it grows in the wet, dense forests. It resents full sun and hot, dry winds, but does not near the constant high humidity of its native environment to look fairly happy. It grows to about 4.5' tall and has a very thin stem (about 1/3"). The bifid leaves are short and wide and look a bit like a butterfly or shortened fish-tail and have a few subtle ridges down them.
