It should be mulched heavily the first winter to protect the crown in our area. My experience has shown it capable of surviving our winters here once established without a problem. Flowers open slightly orange and age to a scarlet color.

Also, I have other roses (mostly shrub roses) in my yard that are covered with Japanese beetles and have been pretty much destroyed, but so far they haven't touched the Flower Carpets for some reason.
