And I would take issue with the hardiness ratings. Although subfreezing weather may kill some or all of the the above-ground vegetation, the roots will survive. During December 2013 we had a week-long cold snap with daytime temperatures staying below 30 and several nights in the single digits. In a shaded part of my back yard I had a small plastic tub with rooted cuttings. The tub was frozen solid for several days but with the first warm weather of spring new shoots appeared.
