This Kansas native is hardy...but...Read More it is not highly regarded by local nurseries as I could not obtain one through a nursery here. The closest relative sold in nurseries is the Canaerti Juniper, which has a much denser, more sculpted look that most people prefer. I just liked the idea of growing something native to Kansas. Some say Juniperus Virginiana can be "invasive" since it self propagates here quite readily, but I have not experienced any problems. This tree can get quite large and older specimens are often seen growing in cemeteries and old ranches. By the time they are large they are great climbing trees for kids. Long lived tree--- Some of the oldest specimens are in the hundreds of years.
