'Mollie Ann' is an induced octoploid, meaning it has a bunch more chromosomes or something compared to regular run of the mill crabapples. Father Fiala named this plant to honor his sister, and the tree was introduced to commerce by Klehm Nursery, South Barrington, IL.
'Mollie Ann' is a unique semi-weeper with thin branchlets in weeping, raceme-like clusters, unlike any other crabapple. It assumes a semiweeping stage as the great number of racemes increases, and it is very attractive even when tree is not in bloom. It has deep red buds that open to finely petaled single white flowers in clusters. The small fruit are deep red.
