The color is more glaucous that regular Japanese Larch. Is is slightly pendulous on its own and needs support to grow upright. The tree looks like it does not want to have a leader. Each year I attempt grafting this tree. Last year I had two grafts that survived and did well throughout the summer. All my trees have started bud break except a few Zelkova. It runs out my grafted wolterdingen trees did not survive the winter. It does not get cold here and that may be part of the problem. I’m guessing some fungus got into them and killed them while dormant. I grafted ten more this year keeping my fingers crossed I’ll finally have more than one. The seller on eBay did say he was apprehensive about selling it. I will never let this one go. It’s one of my all time favorite conifers. I live growing larch. They just make me happy.
