It does quite well in deciduous tree shade, every-other week summer water and none in winter, and no winter protection (has survived hard freezes into lower 20s). But, I have tried R. karrooica several other places in my garden and it has not survived. I don't know what it is about that particular spot, but this species seems to be fussy about micro-habitat.
