I planted a windbreak row of 1 gallon Berckmans' Arbor Vitaes on both the east and west side of the property. That was 6 yrs ago and they are 5 ft tall already. Judging by other Berckman's in the area, they will get 10 ft around and 20 ft tall and they will be opaque, so great privacy also. I do have good flood watering for them. To give you an idea how well they are doing... other junipers and cypresses that I have planted in the same area have died. They love the full sun and don't seem to mind if I miss a watering once in a while. So I recommend them with the highest praise for similar conditions. My problem is that 2 have died. One was burned down by my neighbors fire works! How do I replace a 5-foot Berckman's Arbor Vitae??

The tree gets mostly sun in a rather dry area of my garden. Mine looks like a miniature cedar tree that grows wild here . I have it planted under a large live oak surrounded by round limestone rocks .
