I stupidly wiped my eyes with my fingers before washing them.
About an hour later the initial itchiness in my eyes had turned to a burning sensation.
Two hours after the minor irritation started I was in hospital having my eyes flushed with saline to ease the burning. My eyes were so sore it was nearly impossible to see.
After a restless night's sleep, my sight was back to normal about midday the next day.
The next time I tried trimming this plant I was wearing goggles and gloves. I was a warm day an I had a very mild affect from the sap fumes but made a point of washing and showering thoroughly. No ill effects.
This may not affect everyone but I also have an allergy to wheat and some perfumes give me violent migraines accompanied with nausea.
