The columnar apples have very short branches - even in maturity most unpruned trees don't exceed two to three feet wide. They can reach heights up to 10' in ground but tend to be much shorter when grown in containers.
The 'Golden Sentinel' is a hardy fast growing tree that's quite prolific and starts producing yummy multi-purpose apples at a very young age.
Mine has even verged on being over eager to produce and has required thinning as it's getting started in bearing, but the flowers and fruit both are beautiful and this tree is definitely as much an ornamental as an edible. I've so far had no pest or disease problems with this variety.
