The somewhat exfoliating bark is interesting, have not experienced any surface root issues. All-in-all a nice tree. However for the last several years, it has produced a tremendous amount of seed which slowly falls off during the winter. Would not recommend for planting near a patio or other places where seed drop would be a mess. And the seed germinates very heavily the following spring so you have young seedlings everywhere
