In Arizona and maybe in other states where this plant is native to, it's occurance ranges from 2000-9000 ft. elevation and grows in the shade of rock ledges and cliffs. This is mostly a rock dwelling fern and amongst other places it can be found at Woods Canyon Lake in Arizona.
It is native to CA, AZ, NM, CO, OK, & TX in the USA.
