That said, this rose is incredibly thorny and not nearly as floriferous as I had hoped. For me, the scent is magnificent, one of the best, but sadly my experience of this rose has been a multitude of strong, thorny, octopus-like canes with very scarce blooms. I never leave a pruning or tidying session unscathed, no matter how careful, and the thorns are thick and strong enough to tear through skin.
I will be replacing this one as I don't have space to let it grow to its full, enormous potential (its height is easily 3+ metres tall). Maybe it would be more floriferous if given the space?

Laguna is almost as bullet-proof for me as Pinkie, the Drifts and Knockouts. The fragrance is not quite as strong as my Zepherine Drouhin, but is similar. Unlike Zephy, Laguna is very thorny. Overall, I will replace this rose with something better.

Vigorous. This is one of the few roses that has very fragrant flowers (redolent of fruit and spice) and also has excellent resistance to black spot and powdery mildew.
The Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden at the New York Botanical Garden, where no fungicides are used, has designated this rose as among their top performers.
In 2007, this rose won an ADR, the German trial of rose performance with minimal maintenance and no fungicide, much like the US Earthkind trials.
