In extremely hot locations, it does best growing in partial shade. It is usually 3 to 8 inches tall, multi-stemmed and forms large mats through spreading rhizomes under favorable conditions. It is shorter in unwatered, sunny sites. The 2 inch, white, showy blooms have purple lines in the throat. It is useful in cultivation as a groundcover or border plant.
