It is small (to 40cm = 16 inches tall) annual viscid proto-carnivorous plant. Its young fruits were eaten by Indians as vegetable and ripe drupelets were used in basketry. This plant needs sandy but fertile soil and its seeds are difficult to germinating (in nothern temperate areas they need to be sown in early March in protected cool place to germinate in May outside, or sown the naked embrios without seed coat and membrane covered only by powdered charcoal immediately in May, after short soaking in GA3 - about 300ppm). P. sabulosa very well grows in temperate areas (to zone 6b) as in subtropical and has very short growing season (only 4-5 months from germinating to ripening of fruits). This devil's claw is very different than other plants in this genera (it creates spindle shaped seeds, medium size long flowers and very unusual large drupelets).
