Summers were VERY hot and dry, winters were quite mild with an occasional freeze. Our "China lilies" came back each spring, smelling wonderful in time for Easter. Mother disliked the fragrance however.
Now I live in Seattle, where paperwhites are sold for forcing at Christmas. I was excited to plant them out in the garden, but they couldn't take the cold, apparently. Daffodils love it here! I have tried various techniques for making my bulbs survive and reproduce. Have managed OK with amaryllis bulbs, also from Christmas,but the paperwhites don't like anything I do. Would love to hear some ideas.

One of the advantages of...Read More this over the more common paperwhites Ziva and Galilee in my garden is that Ariel is a stockier, shorter plant with stems that don't flop over. I have only grown it in the ground but I think it would be excellent for forcing in pots and wouldn't require staking or tying.
