Transplanted some today to my experimental native plant flowerbed (follow progress in my DG blog).
Of interest to me:
Native Americans used the stem and leaves as a wash for sores; boiled the roots and took the tea for stomaches, diarrhea, rheumatism, influenza, colds, coughs, and pneumonia; and powdered the roots and dusted them on burns. The young stems were eaten and the roots and leaves dried and boiled to make a red or orange dye.
