It is a "cerrado" species, a physionomy from Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay that has a rainy and dry seasons with xeromorfic plants adapted to this dry season, and as it habitates open forms of cerrado it is drought tolerant( has underground storage organs, starting as early as the seedling stage) needsperfect drainage( try starting seedlings in some kind of sandy mixture and regulating the amount of water supplied) and likes acidic soil. When it flowers in winter( in Brazil- from june to september) it sends globose and pendant flower heads from the trees, which are red in color, these flowers attract many forms of wasps and honey bees and also has a deep fragrance resembling Acacia species.
