Piriqueta is a perennial wildflower that does not become shrubby and its leaves lack glands. The first propagation method listed in the plant profile above (dividing rhizomes, tubers, corms, or bulbs) will not work because Piriqueta lacks rhizomes, tubers, corms, or bulbs. The seed collecting method listed above won't work. Piriqueta has capsules that explosively hurl the seeds away from the mother plant, which makes collecting seeds very difficult. Piriqueta is a lovely wildflower that is very easy to grow in moist but well-drained soil in a sunny position. It is very drought tolerant once established and is usually not bothered by insect pests; however, gulf fritillary butterflies are sometimes a problem since they readily lay their eggs on Piriqueta and the caterpillars can decimate a large group of plants in a short time. Although, if one is trying to garden for butterflies, then this would be a positive feature. Butterfly gardeners usually plant passion vines for gulf fritillary butterflies but Piriqueta is much more attractive to these butterflies and is by far their favorite caterpillar host plant.
