My mother gave me a bunch of these bulbs two years ago. I had an excess of leaves from one part of the yard and I piled them in one pile...Read More; they broke down in one year and that is where I put the bulbs. They have grown amazingly well!! This past year they got 4-5 feet tall.
They were of varying sizes but none needed staking and they did not die when summer came. In fact, it's mid October and I still have one standing that hasn't turned brown (I waited till they turned to cut them down)--of course they only bloomed in late spring I think it was, but the greenery remained.
Right now a few are already starting to sprout anew. I've had to spread the bulbs out because they grew so well and were so compact they choked out the other plants I had in the bed.
My soil is mostly clay and I haven't had any plant do as well in the ground as these--don't know why really. I haven't fertilized them either.

Update: July 1 2006; now in flower, looks like and oriental with a lovely fragrance. A light dusky pink.
Doesn't look at all like the picture on the package.
