It seems to do well in sun or part shade, and it also seems to be very resistant to any sort of pest or disease. With all the rain we've had this summer plus a bumper crop of rabbits, my garden has suffered, but the two boltonia plants just keep cruising right along. So far I'm very impressed.
Update summer 2013: Love this plant; it does well no matter what and is absolutely covered with flowers. This will certainly be a staple in my gardens from now on.

I stuck it in the soil, figuring I killed it, but what the heck. I kept up with watering and checking on it to be sure it established itself, and it has taken off! Looks beautiful, still blooming, and the broken branch made itself some roots and has grown and bloomed too! Who knew? What a great purchase! Such pretty lavender daisy-like flowers.
The species can reach 5-6', but this cultivar only gets to about 2'.
