The fruit clusters can get quite heavy to the point where branches may break if unsupported, especially during high winds.
Good flavor, bred at the Levin Agricultural Research Centre (New Zealand) in 1943 and released in 1949. Not commercially popular at the time because of the small fruit, became the most popular New Zealand home garden variety. Sent to Victory Seeds (my source) via Glenn Parker of New Zealand. Not to be confused with Red Russian, which is a different variety.
