This cultivar is credited with being the first commercailly cultivated pecan. It originated in St James Parish, Louisianna, and was graft...Read Moreed into 126 trees on Oak Alley Plantation. Most of these were destroyed during "Reconstruction" but in 1876 pecans from the remaining trees were exhibited at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, Pa. The then owner of Oak Alley Plantation, Hubert Bonzano, was awarded a commending the pecan for "remarkably large size, tenderness of shell, and very special excellence".
