I divided the plant and gave part to a friend. She sent a photo of the plant from an exhibition at the New York Botanical Garden called "Wild Medicine." It had the following information on a tag:
"The West African snakeplant is a popular ornamental with pointed, sword-like leaves. The leaves are a source of durable fibers for bowstrings and other uses. Traditionally the plant has been used to treat skin sores, rashes, diabetes and snakebite. Snakeplant is rich in saponins, and glycosides, which are chemicals that can help regulate the body's biological functions. In one laboratory test, extracts of snakeplant were shown to reduce pain and fever in mice. "
