Plants can be trained up a fence or hedge to save space, but the enourmus fruits are very heavy.
Has a deep taproot and thin roots just underneath the surface several meters around the plant. The vines develop additional roots if they touch the bare ground.
Under ideal condition the plant will produce serveral fruits well over 50kg. Good keeper.
Flesh has a fine, peach-like texture with almost no taste and is used for sweet-and-sour mixed pickles and other preservatives. Male flowers could be fried. To save space and to hasten fruitset, pinch out the growing tip after five or six leaves have formed to promote sideshooting. Temporary wilting will encourage the formation of female flowers. Flowers are extremly attractive to snails and slugs. Use thinly diluted liquid fertilizer, evenly applied over several meters around the plant. Can be used to graft melons to improve growing at lower temperatures.
