Podranea Species, Port John's Creeper, Queen-of-Sheba Vine, Zimbabwe Creeper

The tag said "mature size 20'" but what I didn't expect was that it reaches mature size within the first season! It froze the second year because it is entirely too big to cover and I cut if back to the ground so it wouldn't be there looking ugly in my yard. By May it was 20' tall again. I bought oleanders for privacy a few months after the QoS and they are half the size the QoS was the first year. The worst part about this plant is that it is about 7 feet from my pool and in order to keep it from from blocking the walkway around the pool this plant requires trimming once or twice a week. It is a beautiful plant and it blooms prolifically and grows very fast. Be sure you plant it in a location where you can handle a 20 foot diameter ball of pink. It also drops leaves and flowers frequently. My husband hates it. I have pruned it into a cave that shields my pool equipment. It would be the perfect plant for an arbor or green sitting cave. You could build your bench and plant 1 or 2 of these behind it or next to it and you would have a lovely shade cave within the first 6 months to a year. I consider it more of a branch pile than a true vine. It can support itself.
