Seems to like a sandy mixture and if in a pot, prefers clay pots over plastic. Like allot of cactus it can handle lots of water during growing season only. I thought it will be easy to kill when I first had gotten it, but was pleasantly surprised. Some of the segments often fall off. But don't worry! This seems to be a normal part of it's life. Just root the fallen segment in sand and start new plants. I live in Phoenix and it does well with full sun from am to 1 pm. I posted the color of the flower to be Fuchsia to Magenta. It seems to be a color right in between dark red pink and dark red. In the blooms in the photo the color should be more red and less pink. Blooms in May. No spines or glochids. My plant now measures up to 7 inches tall in the pot. One of my favorite cactus. So unique, so tiny and so hard to find.
