Outdoors in a very wet environment, it can be a bit invasive, as it spreads by long underground stolons.... but that has never been a bad thing to me... looks great wherever it shows up. It's sort of like the 'good looking bifid spreader', which is a comparison to the rattier, icky looking Chamaedorea brachypoda, which usually looks tattered, moth-eaten and yellow. This plant doesn't even brown tip with our crummy so Cal water. It however, will burn badly if gets into direct sunlight.
