The Northern Raven of coastal British Columbia, that I am familiar with, prefers solitude and wooded areas. Their size, almost double that of a crow, set them apart. Glossy plumage and significant under neck feathers were evident from a distance. Their deep call, as if it comes from the back of the throat, is unmistakable and typically in a set of 3.

Long-revered by First Nations communities along the coast as a symbol in art & legend, the Northern Raven is a prominent bird of forested areas.
