I love 'my' barred owl that perched in my locust tree out back until a storm blew the tree down a few years ago. I still hear his call at 3:30 am ('cuz how can you miss it), but he's not as close:(

Apparently baby owls often fall out of their nest. If you know where the nest is, place the bird on that tree and it should climb back up. The ones I found were very young, nowhere near the nest and almost ended up as someone's dinner. Raptors are protected species in my state, so any vet will take them and send them to a sanctuary where they will be taught to fly and released into the wild.
They have very sharp claws, but the baby owls I handled were not at all upset with me for picking them up. They were very friendly and just as curious about me as I was about them!
