Taken on 4th June 2007. Widespread in Continental Europe and the British Isles. It's larvae, called wireworm, can damage potatoes but usually eat rotting wood.

Taken on 23rd May 2008, Lincoln UK. The larva is a yelllow-orange flat ended wire-worm which I often come across.

They are around 12mm or 1/2" long.

The joint between it's thorax and abdomen enables it to jump and right itself if on it's back, making a 'click' sound.
