I think this Promethea Moth is a male, found mid August, west KY, USA

A Promethea larva that just molted his skin. Notice his red and yellow knobs aren't quite erect yet. Pic taken 8-11-04.

A mid instar Promethea larva. Notice his knobs are still all yellow but the front 4 will change to red after the next molt. Pic taken 8-04-04.

This is the adult male of the larva pictured above. I placed his cocoon outside in my 'cathouse' for the winter and he eclosed on July 11, 2005.
