Wing span: 1 7/8 - 2 inches (4.8 - 5.0 cm).

Identification: Male yellow; female yellowish white; two round, red spots on each hindwing in both males and females, the central spot attached to a black mark extending to the anal angle. Red marks of the hindwing most extensive along inner edge.

Flight: One flight mainly late May to early August.

Caterpillar hosts: Bleeding Heart and corydalis in Asia, but not recorded for North America.

Habitat: Open areas or just below treeline.

Range: Holarctic. In North America occurring throughout most of Alaska except for coastal areas, through the Yukon and southward into northern British Columbia.
