The spider "Lycosa carolinensis" is the same as the spider Hogna carolinensis. The Lycosa genus is found across the Atlantic ocean and has enough morphological differences to be considered a seperate genus. The use of Lycosa is now out of date though still a few researchers insist on keeping this spider in the transatlantic genus, it is rare among arachnologists.
