| Caesalpinia Species Caesalpinia pulcherrima I love this plant! It is a mite tender in our Zone 8, of Central TX, but with a straw mulch it does just fine. We grow ours out in the open on top of a hill where there are hard winds and frost in the winter. It grows fast and one of the few things that will bloom all through our hot summer. Gorgeous flowers, hot and tropical looking with beautiful ferny leaves. No disease problems. Likes it hot, and doesn't mind the drought. | Canna Species Canna indica Common name is Indian Shot canna. It has a beautiful large flower scape full of brilliant small red flowers. Unlike many species canna this one has a very showy flower. Nice where it's windy because the small flowers don't get wind torn. Hummingbirds love it. Has beautiful dark green leaves. Grows easily from seed. No noticeable presence of any virus.
