This beautiful plant is easy to grow! Just plant the seeds 1 ½ to 3 inches deep after the last frost. Within 2 weeks, they will sprout and grow fast. As shown in the photo, the red flowers and blue balls are quite a showpiece! Some reach 15+ feet in height. The more sun and better the soil, the taller they grow. The flowers are followed by blue hulls which are rich in nitrogen, phosphates, & potash. So, we simply throw the hulls in the garden to be tilled under when convenient. The leaves also contain good amounts of nitrogen and phosphates, so shredding and tilling them into the garden also helps enrich the soil. The seeds contain the poison, ricin, so don’t eat them or allow other people to eat them.

These are heirloom seeds, not genetically modified or hybrids

You should not grow this plant if you have small children or pets who tend to chew on your plants. It is highly recommended that you break off and discard any seed pods as soon as they begin to form, unless you have taken precautions to ensure they will not be accidentally injested by children or pets! These plants produce seeds which are both extremely beautiful and extremely poisonous. Keep away from children and pets

CASTOR BEAN ships ground only as per USPS rules. Seeds, bark & leaves are all somewhat toxic, but the greatest concentration of the toxin occurs in the seeds & their pods. If you grow Castor Beans in your garden and you have children or pets it is safest to remove the seed pods before they open up and fully mature. I plant these in patio planters. One seed planted produces a nice plant with a lot of seed pods.

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni sweetleaf Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni sweetleaf
Stevia Seeds & Cultivation
Stevia is a tender perennial shrub that needs to be kept from freezing over the winter. In Canada, it can be grown as an annual outdoors or year-round in a greenhouse. It has short oval leaves that are incredibly sweet but without calories.

Stevia Cultivation: Stevia plants thrive in rich garden soil, full sun to part shade, high temperature and humidity, and plenty of water. Seeds are best sown in summer or in a warm greenhouse, and should be lightly pressed into the soil. Germination can be slow and erratic. Plants should be spaced 1-2 feet apart.

Stevia grows best in upland areas in sub-tropical climate. In other places it can be grown as an annual. The plant prefers a lightly textured, well-drained soil to which organic matter has been added. It needs ample water so that the soil is consistently moist, but not wet. In hot, sunny climates it will do best in semi-shade. Propagation is from seed sown in spring, but germination rates can be low-expect half the seeds sown not to germinate. Plant seedlings out once all danger of frost is over. Leaves are best harvested just before flowering. The plants will also grow from cuttings, which are best taken in late winter. The concentration of stevioside in the leaves of Stevia increasing when the plants are grown under long day condition.

While, cultivating stevia on a large scale, it can be grown in well-drained red soil and sandy loam soil. The soil should be in the pH range of 6.5-7.5. Saline soils should be avoided to cultivate this plant. Stevia can be successfully cultivated al l around the year all over India except the areas, which receive snowfall, or temperatures go below 5 degree Celsius in winter. The summer temperatures actually do not affect this plant if the high summer temperatures have already been factored in the cultivation practices.

Since seed germination rate is very poor, it is propagated vegetatively. Though stem cuttings are used for vegetative tissue culture plants have proven to be the best planting material for Stevia. Tissue culture plants of Stevia are genetically pure, free from pathogens and have excellent vigour. The tissue culture plants can be planted throughout the year, except during peak summer. An ideal planting density is 30,000 plants per acre with spacing of 25x40 cm in a raised bed system. The soil can be enriched with a basal dressing of 25 tons of well rotten farmyard manure/hectare.

Stevia does produce seeds, but only a small percentage of them germinate, which is important to consider when you are buying seeds
