| Giant Cutgrass Zizaniopsis miliacea We have large amounts of this native grass growing all around the margins of our lake. The emerging shoots in spring are blue-green in color. In the fall it can sometimes turn a nice shade of maroon, and it has large loose seed heads that are also dark red or maroon in color. It is aggressive and spreads quickly with runners but does not appear to move onto dry land at all.
