Tropaeolum tuberosum Tropaeolaceae I grow this in Zone 8a in Hansville Washington. You can grow it on a trellis or on the ground. It produces around 5 pounds of tubers if trellised in the fall. You can eat the leaves all summer and in fall the bright orange flowers along with the tubers. It tastes similar to Nasturtiums. It has many health benefits, and I will provide a handout if interested. It has been cultivated since 5,500 BC in the Andes and is a food source for 9 million people living in the Andes. It is resistant to many insects, nematodes, fungi and other pathogens. One can also grow Mashua plants indoors in pots or containers. Growing Conditions Soil: They can grow in almost any type of garden soil as long as it is moist. Sunlight: These plants grow well in direct sunlight.
