I grow mainly dahlias, so it's safe to assume that if one isn't on my 'have' list, then I'll be willing to trade for it, even if it's not on my 'want' list. Drop me a line. I've got a stupid number extra of certain dahlias, and I'm happy to discuss alternative items for trade, even if they're not currently on my list.

If you have dahlia seeds, I'm likely to jump you for them, as I also breed mine, and the seedling garden is always in need of more new plants. This year's germination was atrocious, so I only have twenty, and have had to bulk up with rooted cuttings from those just to fill out the space... *sigh*.

If you happen to have peonies you're interested in being rid of, firstly I think you're mad, and secondly I'd be delighted to take them off your hands. I'm always interested in peony seeds and seedlings as well, of course.

Okra
Abelmoschus esculentus

I grew a plant just for seed this year, since my garden got hit by late frost and only one seedling survived anyway... I've had this particular okra 'strain' going in my garden since 2010. Haven't needed to buy any seeds in that time, and the plants always grow very reliably. Happy to trade for other warm climate vegetable seeds, or strawberry plants.

Astilbe Species
Astilbe

Once upon a time these were purchased as part of a much larger grab bag. I have white, pink and darker pink (which I think is supposed to be 'red'.) I'm in the process of keeping an eye on which plants bloom which color and tagging them, since they're getting divided and moved around this year.

Buddleja Species
Buddleja davidii

Butterfly Bush
A plant that can take some abuse, ours has survived ice storms and 100F plus weather alike. It doesn't seem to mind either excessive wet or dry spells. Will attract every butterfly in a mile radius while blooming, which is most of the summer. For a healthy, manageable plant, cut back to within about 2-3 feet of soil level once a year (or more.) It will grow back rapidly in the spring. Subtle sweet scent.
Flowers can be cut. They immediately droop upon cutting, but don't actually wilt and die.
I'm told it's invasive and spreads horribly, but mine has never set seed.

Camellia Species
Camellia sinensis

Tea plant. Ours is several years old and about six feet tall by four feet wide, growing very dense. We can take numerous cuttings. Sets seeds well also. We've only made tea from it once because we're coffee people, but it was quite decent.

Hot Pepper
Capsicum annuum

Fresh seed available. These grew very well this year, and I have a ridiculous amount of seed to share. Happy to trade for other veggies. I'm saving most of my hot peppers in pots to overwinter this year, so some of those are available as well. Cuttings are of course always available.
'Georgia Flame' Seeds, Plants, Cuttings

Catharanthus
Catharanthus roseus
Plants, Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Cercis Species
Cercis canadensis

Eastern redbud. Grows basically as a weed here in central NC. I'll be pulling off a few seed pods once they're ripe, but those won't be available for a bit. Cuttings are always available. Plants are saplings available off and on as I have to dig them out of my bell peppers.
Seeds, Plants, Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Species Crocus
Crocus sativus

Saffron crocus. Produces three saffron threads per flower in the fall. A small number of bulbs are available. I'd prefer to trade them only for relatively high-value items due to their scarcity and value in food production.

Echinacea Species
Echinacea purpurea

Growing out a batch (about 80) of these for a friend. They're meant for a cutting garden, the proceeds of which will go to a local dog rescue.

Weeping Forsythia
Forsythia suspensa

Take it, oh take it, please do.

Hosta

Originally purchased from a farmer's market stall in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Limited availability.

Hosta
Hosta

Huge plant, spreads very slowly, so limited availability.
'Sum and Substance' Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs
(PlantFiles)
Hosta Species
Hosta sieboldiana

Not making separate entries for my numerous hosta varieties because very few of them have been labelled for *years*. Many were purchased by friends/family members and gifted/shared, a few were bought by me so long ago that I barely remember.
Seeds, Plants
(PlantFiles)
Hydrangea
Hydrangea macrophylla

Not sure of the cultivar, since the plant came with the house when we moved here. Blooms big and blue once it gets going. Just moved it out of a spot in full shade, dividing four ways at the root, so I'll have plenty to share if anyone wants some pretty soon here.
Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Ilex
Ilex cornuta

Burford holly. We grow a hedge of it to block out our view of the 21st century, and a few spare plants out back in case the town decides to rip it out to lay power lines (again). Large plant, covered in tiny flowers that bees and other pollinators love, it's berries attract various bird species, from cardinals to cedar waxwings, and the foliage provides ample shelter to local hares, turtles and even occasionally an opossum. Ours are about thirteen years old, and are tall enough that we need a ladder and long-armed clippers to prune.
'Burfordii' Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Yaupon Holly
Ilex vomitoria

Weeping Yaupon, or Weeping Holly Tree. I think this might have come with the house...? We cut it down to 1/3-height every couple of years to push back the shade from the garden, but it always grows back rapidly. Had a large flock of Cedar Waxwings descend upon it to strip the berries this year. Mrs. Cardinal has her nest near the top, right next to an upstairs window. Very tall, skinny tree, but very elegant draping form. Keeps its fresh green foliage year-round.
'Pendula' Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Lavandula Species
Lavandula angustifolia

NFTY. Two healthy plants held back from a batch that was mostly sold. Cuttings will be available spring 2019 and rooted cuttings later that year.

Lysimachia Species
Lysimachia nummularia

Brought this home to NC from MI after my grandmother had me clean out her garden one year. Well-suited to both a humid zone 7b and to a much drier 6a.

Not available again until spring '19.
Plants, Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Magnolia Species
Magnolia grandiflora

Flowers continuously enough, and prolifically enough, that seed pods are almost always available (but, not currently. Try again in the spring.)
Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Lily Magnolia
Magnolia liliiflora

Tulip tree. Blooms profusely in the spring in varying shades of pink, and continues to re-bloom for a couple of months before settling into foliage. Since it's a magnolia relative, the flowers are perched atop the branches, opening upward.

Oxalis Species
Oxalis articulata subsp. rubra
Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs
(PlantFiles)
Oxalis Species
Oxalis triangularis

Gorgeous, large purple leaves, tiny paler flowers. Rhizomes grow out in a snake scale-like pattern. Careful growing this in the Carolinas, as it can naturalize and run a bit wild.
Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs
(PlantFiles)
Sour Cherry
Prunus cerasus

I have several branches in the process of being air layered, or I can take fresh cuttings.

Always at least a few seedlings I wouldn't mind digging out of my garden beds.

Seeds now available in packets of ten. 6/3/2018

Peach
Prunus persica

Grown from seed. Several air layer branches in process. Tree is bearing fruit for the first time as of spring 2018.
Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Pacific Blackberry
Rubus ursinus

Thornless blackberry cultivar. We've got plenty. Seriously, I'm happy to dig the runners out of my flower garden for anyone interested.
Plants, Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Hylotelephium
Sedum

... Might possibly be 'Autumn Joy'. They're very similar.
Working on rooting some leaf cuttings currently, they'll be available soon, and much smaller/lighter to ship than trimmed root balls. If you'd like leaves to try rooting them yourself, I can send a clipped stem with leaves attached so that you can manage how you want to detach them.

Sempervivum
Sempervivum

Obtained from Skegemog Gardens, a small but very well-stocked garden center in Traverse City, MI in Aug 2018.
About $5 got me about fifteen plantlets in addition to the main section. This Hens & Chicks is a lovely soft red, shading to grey-green toward the centers. According to the tag, it will bloom around midsummer (so, next year) and partial shade to full sun.
'Silverine' Plants
(PlantFiles)
Trachelospermum Species
Trachelospermum jasminoides

Variegated ground cover. Blooms reliably in full sun, uncommonly in full shade. Plenty of rooted stems available.
Plants, Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Tricyrtis Species
Tricyrtis hirta

Purple-pink flowers, mottled green leaves. Likes very wet feet and shade or partial shade. Grows 3'-4' tall and spreads slowly to fill whatever area it's in. Single rhizome gifted in 2008/9 now fills 4'x10' bed. I've seen no evidence of this flower spreading or getting out of hand via self-seeding, although it does set seed.
