First generation plants grown from seed stock from Fedco Seeds of Waterville, ME. To the best of my knowledge, no other varieties of runner beans are grown nearby.

318SR Scarlet Runner Bean (70 days) Open-pollinated. Phaseolus coccineus Climbing beans often grown as ornamentals for their brilliant scarlet blossoms that attract hummingbirds. Need trellises, fences or poles; will grow to 10–12'. Can be eaten either as snap or shell (95 days) beans. Beautifully mottled purple and black seeds. Heirloom variety grown as early as 1750 by colonists and in 1791 by Thomas Jefferson.
