Melissa Species
Melissa officinalis

This herb tends to need a shaded area and can tolerate sun very little. This herb is not prolific in anyway and although in shade it can be very easy to grow, in sun it struggles and tends to burn. Even so, it is a wonderful addition to the collection for the dried herb section of your kitchen for winter tea preparations as well as used for fish when people are allergic to real lemon. This herbs adds a nice zing to almost any dish.

Chocolate Mint
Mentha x piperita f. citrata

VERY prolific...I have planted this wind side of the leech field in hopes that it will eventually cover the leech field and drown out the grasses and berries that grow there. This plant makes a very nice addition to a peppermint blend for tea for stomache upset during winter. Very useful during winter for a quick herbal warm up after coming in from the cold.

Plenty of this fern emerging from the forest floor. It is now planted among flowers in the shade garden as well. If you need some variety and interest in the shade this makes a good filler for bare spots and is evergreen all summer.

Floribunda Rose
Rosa

Dont bother with the knock out roses when you can have this one. This starts blooming in early June and doesnt quit until late october or when the first hard frost bites. Unbelievably not picky about soil or water or sun and just keeps on blooming. The knock out rose I have blooms periodically with breaks in between the burst of rare color but this rose never stops to take a break and it doesnt get eaten by winter savagery...the knock out barely made it through the winter and this rose came through the winter like a trooper with very little branch loss and ready to send out new shoots for buds from the first signs of the sun's warmth.

5/10 No rooted cuttings yet. Working on it though.
